This podcast (in general) is surprisingly useful for this pandemic. Besides health officials having someone like Nate with a keen understanding of statistics is a really great resource. 538 has been a comfort the last few years with the evil cheeto in office and now it's a comfort for Covid-19. Thank you to the team for all the hard work!

"80-90% normal by the election year."
Poor Nate. A 2008 type recession is the BEST case scenario.

It's us against the world 🌎✊💖👫💪!!!!"With all this extra stressin'
The question I wonder is after death, after my last breath
When will I finally get to rest? Through this suppression
They punish the people that's askin' questions
And those that possess, steal from the ones without possessions
The message I stress: to make it stop study your lessons
Don't settle for less - even the genius asks-es questions
Be grateful for blessings
Don't ever change, keep your essence
The power is in the people and politics we address
Always do your best, don't let the pressure make you panic
And when you get stranded, I know it seem hard sometimes but uh
Remember one thing
Through every dark night, there's a bright day after that
So no matter how hard it get, stick your chest out
Keep your head up, and handle it" -Tupac Shakur

Some people think Trump beat the odds in 2016.
He only beat Hillary.

my polling place has been a nursing home for decades. chicago board of elections announced about a week ago that it and other nursing home polling places would be moved. we still haven’t gotten anything in the mail and people will definitely show up at the original nursing home and have to go to a park field house about 6 blocks away

Nate weren't you just scoffing at the idea of a recession 10 plus days ago? When the betting market had already called it? I could swear I recall you making fun of the betting markets because of that. The night before the 2016 election, the betting markets were doing a better job at predicting a Donald Trump win than the 538 model as well. Love what you guys do, but don't diss the betting markets.

Hong Kong and Singapore are the best case scenarios. Do some wider research. HK has closed schools but business and PT is open. Singapore hasnt closed schools either. High density but still low infection rates.

The race is over. Agreed. There are still a lot of people who insist that Sanders stay in the race. You've made the case in bits here and there that mathematically Bernie can't win anymore. Could you do a whole episode where you just lay that out carefully for people?

Actually what I've seen is people that like Trump still like what he is doing while this that don't ...don't. what's interesting is I don't think that there is much of a difference between the democrat and republican response. They will respond differently but the end result will be the same. The economy is gonna suffer either way. The important question is who do you want to help rebuild the economy AFTER the pandemic. And most that I've talked to( independents) feel Trump would do better.
