16:38 - "... before things can become 'totally normal again' when there is a vaccine, something to that effect". I'm going to be critical of this point again. This is a talking point that is being repeated by journalists, business and politics journalists in particular. We've been hearing it from the beginning. It's pure conjecture. They have no evidence at this point to indicate concretely that a vaccine will have any substantial effect on the trajectory of this pandemic. She has no way to know if a vaccine will win the race against the natural spread of infection. Nor does she have any idea if a vaccine will ultimately have any influence on a return to normal.

Sad to see Albertans stuck. The more of your oil we sell, the more money we lose. Not gain. Its Math. We have to do something else, and Canada is here to help you shift.

The issue is these neoliberals want to means test and parce population. Essentially the most vulnerable under the Social Contract should of received an adequate UBI immediately for all at the poverty line & below. Everyone over the poverty line can get a tax rebate, all business operators can apply for govt subsidized loans at their banking institution immediately . Canadian provinces should start forming provincial PUBLIC BANKS like State of California to mitigate future emergencies. There should be funding expansion for venture investments by gov't. Read economy MMT 😉

If the unemployment rate increase in April was not so large as forecasters had predicted, it was in large part because the participation rate decreased much more than expected, a record 3.7 pps decline that left the participation rate at a record low 59.8%. In the US, there was also a record decline in the participation rate, but it was only 2.5 pps, leaving the American participation rate at a record low 60.2%, but much above its Canadian equivalent. This helps explain the sudden flip from the US having a lower unemployment rate than Canada to it having a higher one. The employment rate can be readily derived from the unemployment rate and the participation rate. The Canadian employment rate was also at an all-time low in April of 52.1% after its biggest drop ever (6.4 pps). It means that right now, barely more than half of the working-age population have jobs.

Why is the government not trying to incentivize business to adopt more online based jobs? This crisis should have been a huge wake up call that while people depend on the income, a lot of these jobs aren't deemed "Necessary" when push comes to shove. At least with more online work from home jobs we could get a major portion of workers back to work and transition off CERB or EI

Ford lifted the rules that you still had to be inspected by government inspectors for care homes not receiving government funding. Then the pandemic hit and it was found those homes were a disaster. Why is it not looked at with the same kind of serious nature as federal meat inspection is for the health and safety of all. You know, making good decisions for the sake of keeping things responsible and on the up and up. Such a joke, and an example of the caving under American lobbying benefiting primarily American owned care homes not in "your" best interest. It saved money but at what cost? Allowing a cut-rate operation claiming the importance of you not inspecting their care home to be in your best interest.
